A Fall Portrait Weekend in Georgia

With our slate full with portrait sessions this past weekend, we could not have asked for better weather! I am an outdoor person. I love all of the seasons and if I am inside, Lisa can tell you that I have to be by a window and thinking of being outside. So, after one of the wettest Octobers in history, I welcomed the clear, dry days of last week.

On Friday, we met the Joneses at the state park for a portrait session with their three children. Moving around the park, we used the stone work, rocks, and trees. The kids climbed all around and were very cooperative, but I think it all came together when we went to the lake area.

Saturday morning found me in Hampton, Ga. shooting fall baseball teams. It was fun to shoot some local teams. I love photographing sports and these little guys are always happy and full of energy.

Later on Saturday, I met Douglas on the square for his senior shoot. This young man impressed me. He knew what he wanted in a portrait session. In talking with him, everything about him exuded in confidence. We started the session on some park benches in the square area. Then we found an old loading dock where the weren't many distractions and let Douglas' true character shine through.

Sunday afternoon, we had a family portrait session with the Pugh family in Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The great weather brought the city dwellers to the park! I counted eight other photographers working there, also. At one time we all were vying for the same ivy covered wall. Quite humerous that we were all in a few yards of each other in the huge park.

As I compose this blog entry I think of the all the nice people I met and photographed this past week. Also, I think about the challenges of clear skies and how to use the sunlight to light the portraits during the different times day. I welcome challenges in photography for they hold the lessons. Never stop learning and growing whatever your occupation.

As I peer out my window, I can see the rain gauge overfilled. Five inches of rain from a tropical storm in the last two days, but, oh, what a wonderful weekend in Georgia we had!

Fall Portrait Fun

Lisa and I have been busy in this beautiful fall weather. From Berry College in Rome, Ga., to Pineville, N.C. and back to McDonough, Ga., I am amazed at the colors of the trees and how they change with the sunlight. Great to be outdoors!

It was a joy to return Berry College where we met the Hopper family. We had photographed Josh and Kylie's engagement session and also their wedding at the beautiful Frost Chapel. It's always a pleasure to catch up with them and what a blessing God has given them in their little one.

I asked Kylie and Josh to kiss him and his look is priceless.

Back at the studio, the lovely Julie and Melody made my day with their smiles, so at ease in front of the camera.

And on a perfect day, the Hellam family returned for some photographs. It was our fifth session with them, from a senior portrait to family sessions to a horse show and the wonderful birthday of their foal, Stormy. We truly have watched them grow.

So much fun and wonderful smiles!

We also had a bridal shoot in Pineville, N.C. which we will showcase on our next entry. While there is still some color on the trees, give us a call to schedule your session.

As Your Family Grows, We'll Be There for You

In the fall of 2006, we met Nicole and Calvin in a local coffee shop to discuss their wedding photography. We enjoyed their attitudes about each other and life. We were delighted when they booked us to shoot the wedding and also chose an engagement session at Indian Springs State Park. We had a great time with them.

In 2007, their wedding took place on the lawn at The Atlanta Motor Speedway. What fun we had! The bridal party dressed in the VIP Suites. The family is filled with NASCAR fans. I even got them to pose by the huge sign.

In the fall of 2007, we met Nicole's family at Heritage Park in McDonough, Ga., with Nicole already expecting.

When the eighth month of maternity came, they chose us to record this stage of their life also.

We were in Charlotte, N.C. when the call came from Calvin with the news of their son, Jason. A quick drive back and I was invited to the hospital room and into this very special day in their lives.

And then, last week, we once again had the pleasure to photograph them at our studio.

As they were leaving, we thanked them both for choosing us. "We'll be calling you again!" Nicole said to us.

Wow! This is the essence of why we are in this business. We know the importance of family. We know how quickly we grow and how we cherish our memories...memories that can be relived with a glance at a photograph.

Nicole and Calvin are just one of the couples that we have followed from the wedding to a newborn child. There are quite a few families who have let us grow with them and we truly feel it is a privilege to document life for them. Thank you!
