Kim & Gabe - An Uptown Wedding

Kim and Gabe's engagement session was at Piedmont Park last fall. They told us that one of their favorite pastimes was to have lunch in the park. Armed with a complete picnic setup and several clothing changes, we hit the park early.

On wedding day, Lisa met the bridal party at Dry Bar in Buckhead for the hair and makeup.

I met Gabe at The Historic Academy of Medicine in Midtown Atlanta, the venue for this exciting wedding.

When you enter the main doors your eyes are taken high to the chandelier which claims it's fame from it's role in the movie "Gone with the Wind."

I also made the rehearsal the night before to get my light readings and photo angles for the big day where Gabe graciously gave me a full tour of this great venue.

The paper flower bouquet was new to me. Just like the engagement session, Lisa and I saw how every detail had been carefully planned and we were very impressed.

The couple had also planned a "first look" meeting before the ceremony in order to allow more time for photos. The first look went just as planned in the courtyard.

And since they are both recent graduates of Georgia Tech, we all took a quick walk for a must-have photo.

Of course, there is always time for the "Abbey Road" shot.

A box contained puzzle pieces where each guest wrote a memorable note to the couple. The puzzle was assembled at the end of the night to reveal our engagement photo.

As they made their way through the sparkler parade, I was asked to follow them to a favorite hangout on Peachtree Road.

I had to make a few stops along the way.

A wonderful December wedding in Uptown Atlanta! We cannot say enough good things about the staff of The Academy of Medicine. It was our first experience here and we are looking forward to working here again soon!

The Art of Seeing - Photographing the Details

I have driven by this farm for the past 16 years and then one day I saw a truck nestled in the brier patch. I was granted permission from the owner and I took a closer look.

The tales this old soldier could tell.

It occurred to me to ask why haven't I seen this truck only a few yards off of the road? Was I looking without seeing? Perhaps it was the farmhouse or the cattle in the field that captured my attention. But I love cars and trucks! How could I have missed a truck in the woods?  And then I thought about all of the things Lisa has photographed at weddings that I never saw. Sure at weddings, there are many "must have" photos that demand our attention. But Lisa is teaching me how to see the fine details.

Most photographers will see the shiny locket attached to the bouquet but due to the rush of the day, few will open the locket to reveal heart warming photos of the grandparents. I will say that I am getting better and Lisa has taught me well. She is professional at getting the details. For me it takes a conscience effort to see past the obvious. After all, you have to learn the art of seeing before you can see the art.

We are a husband and wife team. We are always working to improve and not settle for what worked in the past. How can we help you with your photographic needs?
